World Mental Health Day 2025
14 October 2025
October 10th was ‘World Mental Health Day’, a day given over to putting a spotlight on the recurring drivers, and detrimental impacts, of poor mental health.
We know that poor mental health is on the rise almost everywhere in the UK as ongoing cost-of-living pressures continue to make it harder for ordinary people to put food on the table, heat in the house, and secure healthy family relationships.
South Warwickshire is no different. In 2024-25, 69% of clients self-described as having a ‘disability or a long term health condition’. Many of those clients suffered from mental health challenges. In Warwickshire, as a whole, the figure was 71%.
But, mental health isn’t a single condition. It varies enormously from learning disabilities and clinical depression, to serious psychiatric conditions such as paranoia and schizophrenia. Every condition is different and every condition needs to be treated differently.
Pressure on health and wellbeing services remains acute so getting the right treatment is never easy; made worse by the pressures of everyday living.
What is easier is to recognise poor mental health when it exists around us, treat those with mental health conditions with respect, and try to design services which can be proactively flexible and sensitive enough to safeguard those with poor mental health.
No one chooses to have poor mental health and, if you haven’t experienced poor mental health personally, no one can tell you they know what it's like not to be able to respond to everyday challenges with the effective resilience others are able to.
